Study Circle Awareness Campaign for Minority Scholarship Schemes

Chief Organizer Prin. Ram Singh in a press conference said that Ministry of Minority affairs is granting scholarship for students of Minority Community (Sikh, Muslim, Christian etc.) studying in schools, colleges, professional Colleges and Universities who got 50% marks in previous class & Income of parents from all sources should not exceed 1 lac for pre matric, 2 lac for post matric 2.5 lac for professional courses (Merit cum-means). A compiled list of all students in prescribed format along with soft copy to be submitted by Head of Institutions/Colleges to Director, Social Welfare, SCO 128-129, Sector-34-A, Chandigarh by 15th September 2010.

S. Iqbal Singh, Director, Social Empowerment Directorate said further that last year (2009-2010) 135790 students availed this scholarship amounting to Rs. 35 Crore. Unfortunately this sum has not been still disbursed to these students by Punjab Government. Deputation in this regard met to Chief Minister S. Parkash Singh Badal and giving memorandum in this regard. He added that unutilized scholarship will be diverted to other Minorities in other states.

This year 2800 Eng. seats and 2000 Diploma in engineering seats for economically poor students have not been released which has led to great frustration and resentment among poor Punjabi students. He appealed to officials of Punjab Government to do the needful to release these seats.
