Gurmat Training Camp (2007) at New York

Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, U.S. chapter will organize the 4th Gurmat Camp for children in New York from July 02, 2007 through July 28, 2007.

The camp is being organized in the area of Richmond Hill in Queens, New York mainly because of a large number of Sikh population resides in this area. This Camp will once again be run within the campus of St. Benedict Joseph School in Richmond Hill, New York located on 117th street between Atlantic Avenue and 95th avenue.

Aims and Objectives of the Camp: To create awareness amongst the young generation about the rich and glorious teaching of SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI. To work towards a Tobacco, Drug and Alcohol Free Society which has been promoted by the ten Sikh Gurus (from Guru Nanak Dev Ji to Guru Gobind Singh Ji). To teach Sikh history - an integral part of our heritage, to the kids and youth in the right perspective. To eradicate social and cultural evils or superstitions and to strive for the uplift of moral, ethical, and social values in the youth. To facilitate a thorough understanding, memorization and use of Gurbani in every day life and to highlight the importance of Sangat and Pangat. To educate children along with adults about the ill designs of mischievous individuals or organizations which propagate cultism and self-worship. To strengthen feelings of respect, dedication, submission and faith towards Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. To remove discrimination and caste-ism from the society and propagate the concept of Universal Brotherhood of Mankind. (Jaat Paat Atey Nashaa Rehat Smaaj Dee Sthapna Daa Sankalap). To launch a movement in the field of education, culture, literature and social development which could follow the approach of Universal Welfare as enshrined in Gurbani. To consistently & persistently reinforce Sikh ethical codes (rehat maryada) during the camp and help parents follow up with children after the camp.
