Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle organized a slide show on Significance of Hair in Sikh religion at Shahidi Jor Mela, Fatehgarh Sahib. Addressing the congregation at this time, S. Satnam Singh Sallopuri, Director, Youth Services accentuated upon the importance of Kesh? Uncut Hair? in the Sikh religion. He said that Sikhism believes that God is a perfect creator. It, therefore, follows that whatever He creates is perfect. The keeping of uncut hair is, therefore, recognition of God? s perfection and submission of a Sikh to the Will of God. He said that uncut hair is a mark of Sikh identity. He said that Sikhs like Bhai Taru Singh ji preferred to have their scalp removed instead of their hair cut. Most of the world? s prophet and saints including Jesus, the Sikh Gurus and the Hindu prophets kept uncut hair. He asserted at this time that Sikh youth is showing reluctance to keep unshorn hair due to the so called attractions and newness of this contemporary world.
