Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle organized a seminar on? Female Foeticide? at Mata Gujri College, Muradpura.

Speaking at this time, S. Satnam Singh? Sallopuri? , Director, Youth Services said that it is a disgrace for our society, which considers the birth of a girl child as a bad investment in future. Briefing the facts at this time, he said that 17 districts in Punjab recorded a child sex ratio of below 800 girls to 1000 boys. He said the gross distortion in the ratio has created an explosive situation that was likely to have severe consequences in times to come.

He said that Sikhism assigns a position of considerable importance to women as guarantors of a peaceful, well-organized household. S. Paramjit Singh, Joint Director, Social Empowerment and Economic Development, GGSSC said that Sikhism recognizes unequivocal equality for all human beings both men and women. The spiritual beliefs of Sikhism propose social reform of women's role in society. Sikhism advocates active and equal participation in congregation, academics, healthcare and military among other aspects of society. The Guru? s enlightened ideals and efforts offered equal status to both men and women. As suggested in the Gurbani, without women, there would be no one at all; they are the source of the physical existence of humanity. Thus, Gurbani explicitly acknowledges their empowerment, dignity, and strength. Pr. Gunwant Kaur appreciated the selfless and tireless efforts of the organization to the uplift the religious and moral values of the society. The Seminar was attended by approx 200 local students.
