(PURV) Peace Understanding Reconciliation and Volunteering
‘UNESCO New Delhi’ the cluster office for India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Bhutan has partnered with Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle to mark the International Year of Indigenous Languages -2019 proclaimed by the United Nations. Addressing the press conference here today the office bearers of Central Students’ Council of GGSSC informed that a conclave named ‘PURV’, short form for Peace Understanding Reconciliation and Volunteering is being organized at Head Office of GGSSC in Ludhiana on 25 September 2019. The event will be dedicated to the 550th birth of Guru Nanak Dev ji, who championed the cause of indigenous people and languages.
Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, an NGO working amongst students for fostering the culture of peace and ‘sarbat da bhalla'(welfare of all) was designated the ‘messenger of peace’ during the International decade for the culture of peace(200-2010). Volunteers of GGSSC had then collected over seven lakh signatures for the culture of peace manifesto which were presented to the UNESCO office, New Delhi.
Mr. Anirban Sarma, The National Program Officer, UNESCO New Delhi will be the chief guest on this occasion. Dr Jaspal Sing, Former Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University Patiala shall deliver the theme lecture. Dr. Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice Chancellor Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Dr Amarjeet Singh Nanda, Vice Chancellor, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Science University, Dr S K Dass, Director IIT Ropar, Dr GPI Singh, Vice Chancellor adesh University Bathinda, Principal Sukhwant Singh, renowned Musicologist, Sardar Pirthi Singh, Assistant Commissioner, Pathankot shall be part the presidium.
Central Students Council, the student body of GGSSC told the press that a musical concert will be held where indigenous musical instruments will be played in tunes inspired from traditional rythms of Punjab. A heritage exhibition, calligraphy in gurmukhi script anda hands on rabab workshop will be the special attractions at the conclave. Awards of honor shall be presented to Sahib Singh for promotion of language, satnam singh for popularizing indigenous music and Dr Dalit Singh for sustainable development.
